Herbs that help The Flu (influenza)
ANISE SEED – is helpful in removing excess mucous.
BONESET – was Grandma’s favorite remedy for influenza. She said she had never known this herb to fail in overcoming the flu. Boneset tea was one of the most common home remedies in days gone by.
CAPSICUM – was Grandma’s favorite catalyst herb for good reason. It carries all other herbs quickly to the part of the body where they are most needed and increases their effectiveness. It is considered by herbalists everywhere to be a supreme and harmless internal disinfectant. It is unequalled for warding off disease. It is known as the purest and best stimulant in the herbal kingdom.
CATNIP – helps with aches and pains due to flu and upset stomach and diarrhea associated with the flu.
CHICKWEED – has cooling properties and will help to bring fever down when taken internally or used fresh as a poultice. As opposed to most poultices that are changed when they cool, Chickweed absorbs heat, and so should be changed when it warms up.
ECHINACEA – stimulates the immune response, increasing the body’s ability to resist infection, and boost the production of white blood cells. It is a natural antibiotic.
GARLIC – was Grandma’s very favorite herb for both medicinal and culinary purposes, and with good reason. She knew its powers, both preventative and curative, are unmatched in the herbal kingdom. It contains natural antibiotics that are effective against bacteria which may be resistant to other antibiotics. It does not destroy the body‘s natural flora, like prescription antibiotics. It has properties to stimulate healthy cell growth and activity. It has a rejuvenative effect on all body functions. It is a health building and disease preventative herb. It is a catalyst herb, enhancing the effectiveness of all other herbs, and carrying them quickly to the part of the body where they are most needed.
GINGER – is excellent for fighting off colds and flu. It relieves congestion, helps to clear sore throats, and eases aches and pains. It is an excellent herb for the respiratory system. Ginger and capsicum work great when taken together for bronchial congestion and stuffy noses. It is a catalyst herb, enhancing the effectiveness of all other herbs, and carrying them quickly to the part of the body where they are most needed
GOLDENSEAL – has a natural antibiotic ability to stop infection and kill poisons in the body. It ranks high as one of the most valuable general medicinal aids in the herbal kingdom.
MARSHMALLOW – contains mucilage which helps remove difficult phlegm from the lungs and helps relax the bronchial tubes while soothing and healing. It helps with inflammation and prevents infection. It was Grandmas favorite herb for all lung related ailments.
OATSTRAW – is a powerful stimulant that is good for many, many things. It has benefits too numerous to count. It has antiseptic properties and is a natural preventative for contagious disease. Grandma drank oatstraw tea daily.
SARSAPARILLA – stimulates breathing in problems of congestion.
WILLOW – was always one of grandma’s favorite herbs to keep on hand. It works like aspirin, except that it is mild on the stomach and is natural. It is good for bringing down fever.
