Ok, so maybe you missed my last blog post on boosting your immune system and beating the flu-- before The Flu got you. It's ok though, no worries because I have some great natural remedies that can help you get through it. So, here we go..
Nasal and Cough Congestion - Combine 20 drops Eucalyptus Essential Oil with Olive Oil in a 1/2 oz bottle and rub on your chest and back of neck
Fever - Feverfew Herb - Place 1 tsp of feverfew herb in 1 cup of boiling water. add honey and lemon for flavoring. Drink 3 cups per day until symptoms subside.
Body Aches -
Pain is something I know all too well having RSD/CRPS and Fibromyalgia.
When we get the flu, unfortunately body aches is something we also have to put up with..But we can ease the pain by using the following remedies:
MASSAGE AND BATH
Grab a bottle of our Pain-B-Gone Essential Oil Blend , pour some in the tub or massage into your achy muscles!
Nausea -being nauseous is a horrible part of the flu for the fact that when it comes to nausea, unfortunately we must let it ride out.
What we can do is EASE THE SYMPTOMS!
Here are a few ways to help yourself:
Peppermint, Ginger & Chamomile Herbal Tea. Blend them or just use one but always Remember to use the loose herb. (Read last post on boosting immune system) Grab a tea ball or tea strainer to remove the herb after steeping and always steep for a minimum of 10 minutes and a maximum of 20 minutes.
Gently Massage, in a circular clock-wise motion, a blend of peppermint and ginger essential oils on to the upper and lower abdomen. This will ease the nausea and also help digestion and cramps.
Fatigue & Weakness - Although sleep heals the body and is great when we are not feeling well, sometimes we just can't. We have to work or take care of the kids and we always can't just lay down and go to sleep when we would like to.
For fatigue I recommend getting a simmer pot, (if you do not have one already), then grabbing some of our essential oils blends to burn in it. You will want to grab peppermint essential oil and eucalyptus essential oil. Not only are they awakening and will keep you on your toes, but they will help your flu symptoms as well aiding in congestion in the chest and the nose along with keeping your cough to a minimum.
You can also place 4 drops of peppermint and 4 drops with 4 drops of lavender essential oil or eucalyptus and lavender into a warm bath.
(if you have a fever, please be sure your water is room temperature, You do not want to increase your fever or get light headed.) This will also be enlivening as well as helping your body aches. Throw some Epsom Salt and Dead Sea Salts into the tub too or grab one of our special bath soaks too. This will help detoxify the body of any bacteria and viruses.
